day 16 - skip am workout, write lengthy post

good morning! I was unable to work out this morning due to recent changes in my schedule. my son started attending preschool this week so I am still trying to figure out the best time to get it in, so bear with me as I adjust!

instead of working out, I will be sharing some trade tips on how to better ensure your success when you start a new exercise routine. a friend of mine was interested in getting in better shape and asked me what's the best way to dive in. here are some questions to keep in mind.

what is your current level of activity?

fitness is about self-improvement and whether you are beginner, intermediate, or advanced exerciser, you can always improve your performance, you can always challenge, learn, and grow. your level of activity determines how often and how hard you will be working out.

what is your exercise experience?

a complete beginner will need a foundation of exercise knowledge, and it is the trainer's responsibility to provide that knowledge, as well as oversee your safety, posture, alignment, breathing, among other factors. a high school athlete will have done sports training with a coach, and will therefore respond to cues and stimuli differently than a beginner would.

what is your goal?

is it to lose weight? look good? improve cardiovascular endurance? build muscle? different goals will obviously require different training methods.

what sort of physical activities do you enjoy?

do you play tennis on the weekends with your friends? your trainer would be wise choose tennis-related activities. do you enjoy dancing? dance cardio aerobics would be a great exercise prescription. do you enjoy the outdoors? you could go on a hike or a walk in the park. if you're having fun, you are more likely to stay with your routine. and with exercise you can perform these activities better and for a longer period of time!

these are just a few of the questions your trainer will ask you when building an individualized and tailored workout plan. answer the questions in the comments!

I will be checking in later for my afternoon workout. enjoy your day!
